The TRB 97th Annual Meeting was held January 7–11, 2018, at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, in Washington, D.C. Meetings of the Transportation and Air Quality Committee (ADC20); Analysis: Regional and Project-Level Air Quality Innovations and Resources Subcommittee; and Technology and Behavior: Emerging Fleet and Travel Impacts on Air Quality Subcommittee were held. Information presented during these meetings have been posted. Refer to the ADC20; Analysis; and Technology & Behavior webpages, respectively, for the meeting agendas, presentations, and ADC20 meeting minutes.
In addition, three workshops co-sponsored by ADC20 were offered at the annual meeting. Workshop presentations will be posted soon on the ADC20 webpage.
- Fresh Air from Future Freight Transportation: Smart, Sustainable, and Sensible
TRB 2018 Workshop #111
Sunday January 7th, 2018, 9am-Noon
Convention Center, 145A
Sponsoring Committees: Transportation and Air Quality (ADC20); Alternative Transportation Fuels and Technologies (ADC80); Alternative Transportation Fuels and Technologies (ADC80); Transportation and Sustainability (ADD40); Urban Freight Transportation (AT025); Intermodal Freight Transport (AT045)
Description
Freight vehicles are significant contributors to pollutant emissions that affect local and regional air quality, causing public health and environmental justice concerns. Vehicle electrification, connected and automated vehicles, and intelligent transportation systems have emerged as pathways to reduce the impacts of freight movements. Participants will explore these three converging technology trends and will identify actions necessary to achieve a smart, sustainable, and sensible freight system. - Implications of Technological and Societal Changes for Air Quality Policy and Regulations: Do We Have Adequate Tools to Know?
TRB 2018 Workshop #874
Thursday January 11th, 2018, 8am-Noon
Convention Center, 209B
Sponsoring Committees: Transportation and Air Quality (ADC20); Transportation Energy (ADC70)
Description
What are the important policy questions for the transportation/air quality community in the face of technological and societal changes anticipated to accompany new vehicles, travel demand, data sets, and legal challenges? Are our analysis tools up to the task when grappling with the uncertainty that accompanies these changes? How do we take advantage of multidisciplinary expertise to work together? Join us to identify opportunities and challenges, and establish a research platform to best meet these needs and potential topics for the ADC20 TRB Summer 2018 meeting. - Innovative Uses of Traffic Data for Air Quality and Noise Analysis
TRB 2018 Workshop #875
Thursday January 11th, 2018, 8am-Noon
Convention Center, 209C
Sponsoring Committees: Transportation and Air Quality (ADC20); Transportation-Related Noise and Vibration (ADC40)
Description
Traffic speed and volume data from such new sources as vehicle probes and roadside sensors can provide many new opportunities for air quality and noise analysis, but they also come with several difficult challenges. This workshop brings together air quality and noise practitioners to share their experiences with this new type of data. Workshop participants discuss their own innovative ideas and ways around technical challenges.
